However, if you are a parent it is advisable you wait for your children to reach 18 years of age before enrolling them in a welding institution. To apply for admission, you will need to submit paper-based forms, copies of education transcripts and identity documents. Identity documents are usually required to determine the amount of fees that you will pay. In most cases, out of state students pay more compared to students from within the state. Some institutions require application made online while others prefer paper-based application. Depending on the welding institution you choose, you may be required to submit application fees. The average cost of studying a welding course is around $130.55 per credit hour for in-state students and $272 per credit hour for out-of-state students.

Online Programs

Currently, there are eight colleges and universities in New Jersey that offer welding classes. You will need to read an overview of these schools to determine the one that teaches welding courses online. You will find that many online programs result in certificates, diplomas or degrees. If you want to get hands-on training, you will need to choose a college or university located in brick and mortar world.

Maintaining Certification

American Welding Society is considered the largest organization in the United States that certifies welders. Key government departments have approved their welding certifications. They test all welders who go through their programs to ensure that they have the required welding skills. Before dishing out a welding license to you, they ensure that you have passed their tests. Their certifications come in three categories: metal thickness, metal types and welding processes. So if your card is stamped as “Certified Welder,” it means that you can proceed with practicing welding under the welding procedures you were tested. They don’t have a single license that covers all types of welding procedures.
